Leisure is a biannual publication, with our first ever edition slated for digital release in the Fall of 2026. We encourage you to submit across the following categories for consideration:

1. Short Stories (Fiction)

We take a broad view of ‘post-growth’ in our consideration of the theme as it relates to fiction. For example, stories about alienation, work, social realism, production, the colonial experience, utopias, dystopias and more would be considered. If you are unsure if your story might fit the mold, feel free to ask. Word count: 100 – 5,000 words. Please include a brief bio, short abstract, and any photos you would like to include along with your piece. 

2. Political Theory/Social Philosophy

Pieces can deal with any number of topics related to post-growth; capitalism, radical democracy, ecosocialism, industrialization, climate, existentialism, dualism, and so on. Please include a brief bio, short abstract, and any photos you would like to include along with your piece. 

3. Poetry

Please include a brief bio, and any photos you would like to include along with your piece. We take a broad view of ‘post-growth’ in our consideration of the theme as it relates to poetry. 

4. Memoir

We take a broad view of ‘post-growth’ in our consideration of the theme as it relates to memoir. For example, memoirs about alienation, love, community, how-to, work, recreation, production, and more would be considered. If you are unsure if your story might fit the mold, feel free to ask. Word count: 100 – 5,000 words. Please include a brief bio, short abstract, and any photos you would like to include along with your piece. 

5. How-To 

We consider all instructional pieces related to the post-growth movement; this might include technical expertise in gardening, self-sufficiency, or furniture building, as well as expertise in creating democratic forms, decision making bodies, building community, and so forth. If you are unsure if your idea might fit the mold, feel free to ask. 

6. Policy Proposals 

We consider all policy proposals related to the post-growth movement. This might include specific policy for your town, university, workplace or country as it relates to labor, environment, public space, taxation, art, and beyond. Feel free to think big or small. 

7. Art

We consider all forms of 2D visual art— photography, painting, sketches, etc.— related to or inspired by post-growth or accompanying ideas/themes. 

8. Experimental

Have an idea that doesn’t relate 100% to the aforementioned topics? Feel free to suggest or submit it here, and we will do our best to find a home for it. 

We do not charge submission fees. At this stage, we are unable to give financial compensation for accepted pieces. As a token of appreciation at our current stage, those who submit accepted pieces will be allowed to join our curated peer network, be featured on our contributor archive page, as well as receive a potential editorial letter of endorsement upon request.
