Leisure is a biannual publication, with our first ever edition slated for digital release in the Fall of 2026.
Anthropocene, shaped by the hegemonic ideology of growthism, promises a reality hostile to the natural world, of which all of humanity is part and parcel. In the context of climate crisis, this reckless, destructive worldview faces growing challenges from a chorus of increasingly dialoguing social philosophies from around the globe, including buen vivir, ubuntu, swaraj, or convivialism. Yet despite these challenges, growthism continues to dominate the global political imagination, sharply limiting cultural engagement with post-growth thought. Too often, these ideas remain confined to academic journals and activist circles, absent from broader cultural conversations.
Leisure seeks to create an open, accessible space where the culture and ideas of a post-growth world can be explored and celebrated across a wide range of forms—short fiction, political theory, poetry, memoir, agroecological how-to, policy proposals, and more. We hope that this space can serve several purposes: inspiration, instruction, community, reflection, understanding, organizing, catharsis, and the collective imagining of a more livable future.
